Alco-Lite ladders manufactured by the Aluminum Ladder Company was begun in 1930 by Sam Carbis whose primary intent was to build a safer, lighter ladder than the traditional wooden fire ladder.  Mr. Carbis was employed by Alcoa at the time and thought that their product, aluminum, would make firefighters jobs easier and safer.  While Alcoa was not interested in manufacturing ladders, Sam Carbis got his new company off the ground and climbed it to the top.

From those humble beginnings an industry was born.  Alco Lite is now a part of a fourth-generation family owned business with hundreds of employees and customers in every corner of the globe focused on safety.  We have been actively involved in the development of safety standards for over 60 years.
